The Great Cookbook Challenge With Jamie Oliver | Channel 4 28 February 2022

Junior Bake Off | Channel 4 28 January 5:00pm

Episode 5

The Great Cookbook Challenge is a cooking competition like no other, as Jamie Oliver teams up with one of the biggest publishers in the UK on an unprecedented nationwide search to find the next best-selling cookbook author, all rolled up into one delicious publishing deal that could change their life forever. Penguin Michael Joseph draw on the might of their publishing experience to discover untapped new talent, while Jamie Oliver and his creative team mentor the aspiring cooks through the competition at Jamie’s HQ in north London. From hundreds of applicants, 18 cooks of all abilities representing a huge diversity of cuisines and cooking styles have their recipes and book concepts scrutinised, as they take on challenges inspired by the real-life publishing process and compete to convince the judges that their food and cookbook deserve to win. From meals that can be mopped up with bread, to nose-to-tail recipes and a love letter to Austrian food, our judges – Evening Standard restaurant critic and food writer Jimi Famurewa, award-winning recipe writer and author Georgina Hayden, and head judge Louise Moore, managing director of Penguin Michael Joseph – whittle down the contestants week by week. Who has the recipe for success and the winning cookbook concept for this first-of-a-kind prize? In this episode, just five cooks remain in the battle to win a cookbook publishing deal with Penguin Michael Joseph. This week, the focus is on the look of the dishes that our cooks must prepare. Jamie Oliver sets the first challenge, in which one of the country’s most divisive vegetables, the Brussel sprout, is the key ingredient in a dish that our cooks photograph on their phones. Jamie will put the snaps on his social media account for a snap poll to find out which one people thought looked the best. Next, the cooks must create a more elaborate dish and, with the help of professional food photographer Georgia Glynn Smith, they must style and capture their dish to show the judges how their food might look if it were to be in their very own cookbook. It’s then up to judges Louise, Jimi and Georgina to decide who will be eliminated from the competition. Troy Deeney : Black History Matters Too | Channel 4 23 May 2022

Troy Deeney : Black History Matters Too | Channel 4
Footballer and current Birmingham City FC captain Troy Deeney has been campaigning to make the teaching of Black, Asian and minority ethnic histories and experiences mandatory in the school curriculum. He was at the forefront of the movement to get sportspeople to ‘take the knee’ in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, and is a prominent anti-racism campaigner. He believes passionately that education is a vital way not only to inform identities, but also to combat racist beliefs and stereotypes. But Troy has found himself frustrated in recent years by the lack of progress in getting the issue of what young people are taught in school – and how they are taught it – to the top of the agenda. In this eye-opening documentary, Troy sets out on a mission to find out why the teaching of diversity in our schools remains optional, and strives to change this. Troy meets people on both sides of the debate, and talks about his own troubled school experiences, inspiring support from prominent contributors such as boxer Anthony Joshua, actor David Harewood MBE, ex-footballer and pundit Micah Richards, musicians Big Narstie and DJ Cuppy and MP Layla Moran, as well as young activists, teachers and pupils campaigning for change. With an issue this important and divisive, it soon becomes clear to Troy that he’ll have to take his quest to the very top.
