McDonald & Dodds: The Man Who Wasn’t There

Barbara, Mick, Gordon and Jackie were rising stars in the 1980s who went on to have high profile careers. Now living in Bath together, there are secrets from the past which could threaten their comfortable existences.

On a surprise day out, the four friends are joined by their other housemate Frankie on a surprise hot air balloon trip. As they ascend above beautiful Bath, disaster strikes and suddenly the balloon lurches out of control. Panic rises and as the basket strains under the weight of the group, it dawns on them that they can’t all survive.

McDonald & Dodds is set in Bath and follows the wildly ambitious DCI McDonald, who is partnered with the shy, modest DS Dodds. While McDonald has transferred from the mean streets of South London to leap up the career ladder, Dodds has happily languished on the shelf for most of his working life.

McDonald is a tough, driven, battering ram of a cop who cracks cases through sheer force of will; Dodds – the tortoise to her hare – is quiet, unassuming and enigmatic. But thrust back into frontline action for the first time in a decade, he discovers a hidden talent for deciphering puzzles. Two contemporary Britons, seemingly with nothing in common, thrown together, boss McDonald and loyal sidekick Dodds forge a rumbustious, entertaining and ultimately – give or take a few setbacks – effective partnership.

Scotland’s Home of the Year: Episode 2

This week the judges head to the Hebrides, with two stunning conversions on the Isle of Skye and a house built with sustainability in mind, on Harris.

Judges Anna Campbell Jones, Michael Angus and Kate Spiers start off with renovated croft house, Bealach Bothy, in Staffin on the Isle of Skye. Home to Jo, Allan, Lexi and Lachlan, the property is a century old and had been vacant for 15 years before the couple bought it in 2002. Small and quirky, the former croft house has been lovingly brought back to life.

Take a peek inside some of the country’s most stunning properties, as three judges travel the length and breadth of the nation in search of Scotland’s Home of the Year.

Architect Michael Angus, interior designer Anna Campbell-Jones, and lifestyle blogger Kate Spiers will visit some truly unique homes over the course of the series, looking for stand-out design and impressive interiors.

From Arran to Aberdeen and Boat of Garten to Coupar Angus, there’s a vast array of property styles to consider, from renovated period farmhouses to innovative contemporary builds. The regional heats take place over seven 30-minute episodes, building to the one-hour final in which Scotland’s Home of the Year is decided.
