Kacey Ainsworth stars as Vicky, a blind woman about to undergo an operation to restore her sight after 20 years.
Second Sight is written by blind writer and performer, Mandy Redvers Rowe.
Vicky’s husband Barry (Ian Kelsey) and her daughter Janey (Grace Stotesbury) reassure her that she’s doing the right thing, and when Vicky’s bandages are removed she sees shapes and colours for the first time in two decades. But her delight is tempered by dismay: from her clothes to her furniture to Barry himself, nothing – not least her husband – looks the way she remembered it.
When Vicky discovers that her role at work is only open to a disabled person, and her devoted guide dog is recalled to help another visually impaired person, the struggle to adjust becomes overwhelming. Has she been imagining a life she never had in the first place?
Jimmy McGovern’s hit series returns to BBC One, with five powerful, original 45-minute dramas about compelling characters at a turning point in their lives.
