The 2014 killing of Kyle Farrell by 21-year-old Fri Martin, his childhood sweetheart and mother of his children. At her trial, Fri claimed she was acting in self-defence after Kyle had attempted to strangle her, before she picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the heart in her home in Toxteth, Liverpool. However, she was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 13 years. Fri is appealing her conviction on the basis of fresh evidence pointing to abuse in the couple’s relationship and the impact it may have had on her mental state.
